Unsolicited Advice 6

Feet to the sky: Unsolicited Advice title
If you ask me, which you haven’t….

This installment of Unsolicited Advice collects some generic pointers skateboarders like to hand out. These aren’t exact quotes from real people, but if you’ve skated, you’ve probably heard these at some point.

“Bend your knees.”

“Just commit.”

“Tie your laces like this so they don’t get torn up.”

“Only posers wear/ride…”

“You’re not going fast enough.”

“Spread your feet out.”

“Bring your feet closer together…”

“Those wheels are no good for (street/park/skatelite) skating.”

“You should drop in on the deep end of the bowl. It’s actually pretty mellow.”

What other dumb *** does P say… Haha jk

“Learn to do tricks while riding, so it’s easier to learn bigger tricks.”

Unsolicited advice is a natural part of skateboarding. Maybe it’s the level of difficulty—that doing something that can feel very awkward or out of control requires various insights and suggestions. Maybe skaters are just friendly and enjoy sharing in skateboarding. Whatever it is, I’m sure there’s more advice to come.
